Trust your Program

Have faith that your program will work...read on.

I've always received a lot of excuses as to why someone doesn't finish their BB programs, some being legitimate, others being just that, excuses. Most often it's "I don't have the time", either due to work, kids, etc. Kids are a legitimate excuse...although some people with great results have still found ways to balance their fitness and family life. Work being an excuse I have a little less patience with....I work 10 hour days at work, and while I often feel tired and exhausted when I get home I still push play. If I still have the time to watch an hour of TV or play a video game, I have no excuse not to exercise.

But the excuse I have absolutely no pity for is "I'm not seeing the results I want right away". This is a sign that you're not putting trust into the program, whether it's P90X, X2, Insanity, the Asylum, etc. As Tony Horton puts it, "Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is your body".

In order to get the results you want, you're going to have to 1) Commit 100% to the program and your nutrition and 2) Not get frustrated and give up when you face your first road block in a program. BB programs often will target your weaknesses immediately, and you will often struggle with programs at the start or with specific workouts. This often leads to people wanting to tweak their programs to make it easier for them, which in turn is going to hurt their results. Everyone, including myself, hates P90X's yoga. But it's still vital to the program, they wouldn't throw it in there if it wasn't. When people first try it they often struggle with a lot of the moves, and then give up on it and want to replace it with another workout.

Just a heads up, unless you were a yoga master before doing Yoga X...EVERYONE struggles with some of the complex moves! It's not reason to quit it though. The problem with modern day Americans is that we often look for the shortcuts to get to the results we want. Shortcuts won't work for your fitness. It's why all the crazy contraptions they come up with like weights that shake and other ridiculous products are a waste of money and time. You need to trust your program and stick with it.

You may not lose a ton of weight or get that six pack in the first 30 days. Very few people do. Every BB program is meant to make you take small steps backward initally. You're going to regress at times, but that's good because it keeps things challenging. These programs weren't meant to be easy. Getting in the top shape of your life isn't easy. So trust in the programs that have gotten thousands of people amazing results and stick with it. I'll end with a quote from Steve Edwards, who helped create a lot of BB's top fitness programs.

"The lesson of the day is to trust your program and let it work. We get tons of mail (literally if it weren’t electronic) from people wanting to alter their program, or quit, as soon as they get weaker, gain weight, feel tired, or hungry, or anything that’s not what they consider to be the direction they want to be going. But you’ve got to trust us; those steps back are going to lead to improvements that you never would have believed to be possible."
